Music Therapy

Katherine Sherrill, M.A., LCMHCA, MT-BC

“Where words fail, music speaks” -Hans Christian Anderson

Music is a unique gift in which we can express our joy, sorrow, love, anger, excitement, and grief, all without a word spoken between us. This quote expresses the power of music therapy in the clinical space for when there are no words or when we need more than words to express ourselves. We have infinite creativity, however, to make the music for what cannot be explained. Music therapy is an allied health profession that is proven to address physical, behavioral, and emotional needs in persons of all ages. I am passionate about incorporating music therapy interventions into my counseling sessions.

More on music therapy…

Music therapy can include active and passive music interventions that help us creatively approach our needs and goals. I received my bachelor’s degree in music therapy from Appalachian State University and then became a Board Certified-Music Therapist in 2015. I have clinical experience in music therapy with adults, adolescents, and children with diverse medical, behavioral, and emotional needs from anxiety and grief and loss, to life transitions, depression, and developmental disorders.
