Including Women
The month of March is Women’s History Month and March 8th is International Women’s Day! It's a special thing to have the opportunity to focus on all of the incredible women who have helped shape our society. Each of these women had a story to tell and without their strength and perseverance, we never would have heard it. People, regardless of gender, experience hardships and periods in life where they need assistance. Sanctuary Counseling Group (SCG) feels that any person who seeks mental health care should be able to access it. We all have a story to tell.
Last month was Black History Month and Sanctuary Counseling Group posted a quote on our social media pages by Maya Angelou. Her quote reads, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” We felt these words spoke to the need for expression, communication, and sharing of what's inside us all. Dr. Angelou perfectly described the feelings of SCG - we all need to share our stories. What follows is a further description of SCG and the work that we do to center women in our practice.
As you may know, Sanctuary Counseling Group (SCG) is a nonprofit local to the Charlotte and Western Piedmont areas of North Carolina. SCG offers affordable and accessible mental health care to our communities through the incredible work of nine licensed mental health counselors. With 65% of our staff and Board members identifying as women, SCG takes women’s issues and overall health into deep consideration with our organizational practices. In 2021, SCG worked with people of all identities and backgrounds. Through demographic surveys, we know that 51.8% of our clients identify as female. During the month of March and every day of the year, we celebrate women. We recognize their successes, stressors, needs, and worth as we do with all of our clients. One special part of working with SCG is that our clinicians offer the ability to counsel from a basis of religion or spirituality if desired by our clients. Sanctuary Counseling Group is dedicated to the healing of your heart, mind, and soul.
Sanctuary Counseling Group is able to offer our communities free or low-cost access to mental health care through the support of our Samaritan Scholarship Fund.
