Living with Complex PTSD after Sexual Abuse

Living with Complex PTSD after sexual abuse? Feel like the people around you don't understand?

6 Things those living with C-PTSD want you to know:

1) We're sorry we can be so reactive! We re-experience our abuse over and over again each day in the form of triggers and flashbacks

2) We don't mean to be antisocial; we often do anything we can to avoid situations that remind us of our abuse or abuser.

3) We are sorry we're so jumpy! We live in a state of hyperarousal, always ready to fight or run!

4) We're sorry to seem so angry all the time! We often have a hard time managing our emotions. We often project anger when we are really feeling scared, alone, or vulnerable.

5) Even though we can put on a pretty face, deep down we often don't feel very good about ourselves and believe the abuse was our fault.

6) We really don't want to fight with you so much! We want a closer relationship, but we don't know how!

Living with PTSD and C-PTSD is hard! If this describes you, a trauma professional can help you learn to cope and heal from the abuse you have suffered. If this describes someone you know, support them with patience and teach them they can trust you. Your patience and support helps them heal.
