Domestic Violence Help

ByJoAnn Mullinix, M.A., LMFTA

YOU ARE GOD’S WORKMANSHIP.

YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO BE ABUSED

PHYSICALLY, MENTALLY, SEXUALLY, EMOTIONALLY, FINANCIALLY, ECONOMICALLY, OR SPIRITUALLY

Domestic Violence is prevalent. As many as 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men face domestic violence from an intimate partner, resulting in injury, mental illness, STD’s, lack of self-worth, and isolation.

On average it takes 7 attempts to leave AND not reengage with the abuser.

The cycle of abuse is often predictable. The time that it takes for the cycle to complete can vary from minutes to months. Learning about the cycle can help a person see that the abuse is not their fault. The abuser is seeking power and may have experienced abuse themselves. They are most likely going to continue in the pattern of tension building, acute explosion, and honeymooning no matter what partner they are with until they seek support in creating personal change.

Domestic violence does not have to be part of life but getting out can be hard. You can call the national domestic violence 24-hour hotline at 1-800-799-7233 (SAFE)
