The Universality of Anxiety
JoAnn Mullinix, M.A., LMFTA
You are not alone in your experience of anxiety. Anxiety is in fact a normal psychological experience that God created as a driver to motivate us closer to or away from things in life. Healthy anxiety will be temporary and related to a specific stimulus such as a presentation, an exciting trip, or driving in a new place. Anxiety becomes unhealthy when it interferes with our ability to live our daily lives in a fulfilling way. For some people this means difficulty making decisions across contexts, difficulty focusing, impaired sleep, as well as persistent worry about multiple things. Anxiety is a universal experience but it does not have to dictate your life choices. If you or someone you love is in need of support in living with anxiety or would like to learn more about anxiety disorders, feel free to reach out to any of our clinicians.
