Healing From Domestic Violence

So you’ve finally gotten the courage to leave an abusive relationship? That’s an awesome first step! But what’s next, you might ask? Here are 3 important factors that can aid in healing after domestic violence.

1) Safety First!: Making sure all contact with your abuser has ceased. Change your number, email, and home address if necessary. Take the steps to make sure you not only feel safe, but are safe from your abuser.

2) Seek support: Join a support group where you can share your story, and hear others share theirs. Since domestic violence survivors are often isolated from family and friends, many find comfort in knowing they are not alone

3) Seek Therapy: A trained therapist can help you learn to cope with fears and draw health relationship boundaries. Domestic violence doesn’t have to rob you of your future!
